Rice blast (causal agent: Pyricularia oryzae) is an important disease of rice in Sarawak. Understanding the pathogen’s morphological characteristics, genetic diversity and pathogenicity important. Having a suitable medium for culturing maintaining P. oryzae to ensure availability inoculum or materials under laboratory conditions. Oatmeal agar (OMA) potato dextrose (PDA) are common media used growing oryzae. OMA allows better mycelial growth sporulation as compared PDA. There also other alternatives such fresh leaf straw agar. Although seems be best medium, unfortunately opaqueness causes difficulty observing morphology mycelia. In addition, it known that different isolates will respond differently media.
